Yesterday we stared off our day with wonderful breakfast of rice and beans made by our talented chef, Miriam. We practiced our puppet show and got everything ready for the day before heading off to La Escuela Sabanilla. Randi Grossman lead the puppet show in telling the story of Lazzurius being raised from the dead. After the curtains closed (or the sheet was lowered) Randi and our translator, Christian, asked the kids questions on how we can show love to our friends just as Jesus showed love to his friends. Then we sang a few songs with the kids and sent them off to their groups. In the craft station, Randi, Nate, Hope, Mat, Cassidy, and Brandy had the kids trace their hands and write in them qualities of a good friend. For the activity, Lily, Rachel, and Hannah played soccer and raced with the kids until their feet were about to fall off. Terry and Margaret worked the snack station to keep the kids hydrated between their activities.
The English teacher from the school took Terry, Margaret, And Christian around the town to show them some places we should serve. They saw a center for handicapped adults, a daycare for poor families, the school were his wife taught, and a retirement center. Today we’ll be going to his wife’s school to do a VBS for their kids.
After returning from the school Miriam prepared an amazing dinner of tilapia fish and French fries. Then we headed to the church where Scott lead a great devotional about the purpose of the church being spreading the word of Jesus. Lily, Rachel, Cassidy, and the puppet team lead the children’s class.
When we returned to the camp Scott lead us in a game of empire which lead to us laughing so loudly that the neighbors might have woken up.
More about the trip tomorrow!
Blessings,
Hope
